  • On April 22 of 1960, Brasilia formally became Brazil's national capital.
  • Previously the capital of Brazil was in Rio de Janeiro (1763–1960) and before that in Salvador (1549–1763).
  • Brazil's 4th largest city
  • Brasilia is the only city in the world built in the 20th century to be awarded (in 1987) the status of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO
  • Brasilia is one of the host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup
